France: Stop letting your weapons be used in Darfur
To French President Emmanuel Macron, Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu, and French weapons manufacturers :
Now that French weapons have been found in Darfur in the hands of a genocidal militia that could be using them to commit atrocities, international law and French law require you to suspend arms transfers to the United Arab Emirates. Failure to uphold the UN Security Council arms embargo and your legal obligations would give the UAE carte blanche to keep fuelling the RSF’s war efforts in Darfur, where UN experts warn genocide could be occuring right now.

These soldiers only leave death, pain, and desolation in their wake. Entire communities have been wiped out or forced to flee into the desert. Now they could be about to take total control of Darfur, where survivors of the 2003 genocide are fearing the worst in humanitarian camps.
None of it would be happening without the massive flow of weapons fueling the war – and Amnesty International just caught these troops using French arms in Darfur. This could be a turning point.
Everything points to France’s top arms buyer, the United Arab Emirates, which has been smuggling in such advanced weapons despite a UN arms embargo. Now France and its weapons companies are legally obligated to suspend arms transfers to the UAE – but with billions on the line, it’ll take all of us to push President Macron.
