An unacceptable choice

To the executive committee and all members of the Lower & Upper House:

As a Japanese citizen, I oppose to the government’s proposal of the new NRA commissioner. Satoru Tanaka used to be a key person of the “nuclear village” and is clearly a supporter of nuclear power, thus not the right person for this job. To put “promotion” and “control” in one place opposes to NRA’s own rule and could eventually lead to the same mistake of the disaster of Fukushima. You hold the key as Member of the Diet and I call on you to stop this plan that would violate the credibility of the NRA.

An unacceptable choice

The Abe administration is about to do a mistake that led to the disaster of Fukushima by joining the pieces “promote” and “control” of nuclear power. But if we act fast, we can stop this plan.

The government’s candidate to substitute one of the Nuclear Regulation Authority’s commissioner this September is nuclear tech professor Satoru Tanaka from Tokyo University -- who also once chaired the Atomic Energy Society of Japan. This clearly opposes the NRA’s own rule which were set by the government and say that the who promotes and controls nuclear power should never be in the same place again. And once both coalition and opposition parties accept this nonsense staff proposal, it could easily pass the Diet by next week and smooth the way to nation wide nuclear restarts. The time to act is now!

Some parties declared already that they won’t support Tanaka, but we need to push all Diet members harder. Let’s call on those who are key to oppose to this candidate now and make PM Abe to abandon this plan. Sign the petition -- and share it widely with your family and friends. As soon as we reach 10,000 signers, Avaaz will deliver our voices directly to the representatives within this week.
