Save Islam's heritage

To King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud:

As concerned global citizens, we urge you to halt the irreversible destruction of pillars at the Great Mosque and protect all Islamic holy sites in Mecca. In addition to sanctity for Muslims, these sites are invaluable to the global community as part of our shared world heritage.

It's shocking -- the Saudi government is tearing down important Islamic sites to build ritzy hotels and shopping malls. Abu Bakr’s house is now a luxury Hilton, and Lady Khadija’s house was turned into a public toilet! The Prophet’s birthplace is next. But together, we can stop the destruction and save what remains!

Millions of people come to Saudi for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to complete Hajj and visit historical landmarks, but the government is irreversibly destroying these sites and replacing them with expensive hotels and malls for the wealthy. King Abdullah has responded to public opinion by changing other development plans before -- let’s raise a massive outcry to get him to stop this!

Time is running out -- with each day that goes by, more sacred land is bulldozed. Let’s show King Abdullah that we won’t allow the Saudi government to wipe out irreplaceable Islamic history. Sign the urgent petition now and share this with everyone. When we reach 50,000 signatures, Avaaz will deliver the petition to the King’s office and ensure our call is heard.
