Deutsche Bank: Close the Hunger Casino!
To Deutsche Bank CEO Josef Ackermann:
We call on you to end Deutsche Bank's role in food commodity speculation, which is leading to skyrocketing food prices for the world's poorest people. We urge you to use your influence as the chairman of one of the largest investment banks and the global association of financial institutions to place the welfare of millions who spend the great majority of their incomes on food above the profits of a few. Your bank's practices can help protect the world's most vulnerable from the damaging consequences of food speculation.

Just like the real estate bubble that crashed the US economy, Deutsche Bank's food investments are irresponsible and bear no relationship to actual food supplies. The result: skyrocketing costs for consumers and wild changes in food prices that make simple family budgeting impossible for many people across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. But there is hope -- after receiving thousands of messages from concerned citizens, Deutsche Bank CEO Josef Ackermann is under tremendous pressure to walk away from this morally bankrupt business.
Ackermann promised to decide by January but now wants to delay indefinitely in hopes that all the fuss will go away -- if we add our voices now, we can corner him into pulling Deutsche Bank out of the food gamble, and use his role as chair of the world bankers’ federation to get others to follow. Sign the urgent petition now, and we'll deliver it spectacularly to DB’s Frankfurt headquarters! After signing you can send a message to Ackermann's personal email account to further increase our impact.
