To the United Nations Security Council:

We urge you to do all in your power to prevent war and ethnic cleansing in Sudan, by clearly and immediately warning Sudanese leaders of the serious economic sanctions they face if they fail to implement and respect the results of the January referenda. Please do all in your power to support the peace process in Sudan and ensure that bold action is taken at the upcoming UN Security Council meeting.

Sudan's dictator Omar al-Bashir, indicted by the International Criminal Court for genocide, is on the brink of reigniting a brutal war. Millions of Sudanese lives and livelihoods are at risk.

In 6 days, the UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting. They can stop more bloodshed by imposing serious sanctions on al-Bashir and others if they return to violence. But Sudan sells oil to powerful nations — buying their tacit consent to countless crimes over the years. It will take a massive global outcry to get the Security Council to act.
