United Nations: Protect our right to privacy
UN Special Rapporteur on Privacy, Joseph Cannataci, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, and all UN member states:
Powerful governments are still working to weaken our privacy rights and collect data on all of us, all of the time. A global problem requires a global response: an international treaty, convention, or legal instrument to ensure our right to privacy, the right to free and secure communications, and the protection of whistleblowers who act in defense of privacy and democracy in our public policy.

In 2013 while I was on the way back to meet my partner Glenn Greenwald, the journalist who broke the massive Snowden surveillance story, the UK detained and interrogated me for hours at the airport under an "anti-terrorism" law. Aiding and abetting journalism = terrorism?
If they could do it to me, they could do it to any of us. And since so many governments aren't strong enough to stand up to major spy powers like the US, a new global agreement where countries could stand together to protect our privacy would be a huge step forward.
A ton of media came out today and our treaty idea could go viral! But to make it happen we need to act fast. Sign and share this like crazy -- let's show the UN and governments that the public actually gives a damn about keeping our emails and phone calls private.
