Do not give in to Donald Trump’s bullying. His tariffs will be a disaster for our economies  - but giving him what he wants would be even worse. Sacrificing the health of your citizens is never a price worth paying for a trade deal: you must commit to not lowering food safety standards in return for lower tariffs.

Stop Trump’s toxic trade trap
Donald Trump’s tariffs have plunged the entire global economy into chaos. Trillions have been wiped off the stock markets, and a recession is starting to look almost inevitable. It’s tempting to put this down to recklessness, arrogance, or even stupidity - but we need to take it seriously.

Trump and his officials know that tariffs are bad for the economy - ours as well as theirs - and they’re upfront about wanting something in return for lowering them.

These tariffs are a bully-boy tactic to force European countries to lower our food-safety standards in order to open our markets to lower-quality, less safe American products, like chlorine-washed chicken and hormone-pumped beef.

We need to show our governments that, however bad these tariffs will be, giving Trump everything what he wants would be even worse. And we won’t stand for it.
