Uyghur lives matter – no illegal deportation
To Prime Minister Shinawatra, and Thailand’s immigration authorities:
Don’t sacrifice Uyghur lives for a cosy relationship with Beijing! We urge you to honour Thailand’s obligations under international law and immediately stop any plans to illegally deport Uyghur refugees to China where they could face imprisonment, torture - even death. We urge you to allow them to resettle in third countries through a smooth diplomatic process. After years of displacement, they deserve a second chance to live a life without fear of persecution, detention, and displacement.

Once lauded by the Chinese government as a “bridge builder and a positive force” -- my brother was sentenced in 2020 to fifteen years in prison on trumped-up charges of “inciting ethnic hatred.” I have been fighting every day for his release.
I am writing to you today to let you know that you can help others avoid my brother’s fate. Right now, dozens of Uyghur asylees are under threat of deportation from Thailand back to China, where they face imprisonment, torture -- even death.
Several countries have come forward to resettle these innocent refugees in their countries. However, the Thai government seems poised to deport them to “celebrate” the anniversary of restored relations between Thailand and China.
