Volunteer with Avaaz in partnership with NextGen Climate!

Avaaz is partnering with progressive group NextGen Climate who have created a unique and effective way for anyone in the world to help turn out young voters in the U.S., by simply text-messaging them with just a computer and internet connection (no phone is necessary).

It is the quickest and easiest way to increase the likelihood of progressive Americans to vote - which is exactly what the world needs as a Trump presidency threatens us all. It’s simple, quick and a lot of fun!

Ready to get started? Here is your checklist - it will take about 10 mins get started:

Reminders:
  • You do NOT need to be a U.S citizen
  • There is NO cost to you
  • You do not need a phone and data plan - only a computer and internet
  • 2 Create a Relay account

Relay is the web based platform we are using to contact voters. You won't need to download anything - you just need an account. And remember you don't need a phone - only a computer and internet connection. Sign-up here

    3 Watch this instruction video

Watch the video, then use the summary of instructions below the video to help guide you.

    Quick summary of instructions:
    • Sign-up for a Relay account (step 2 above)
    • Click on "Start Texting" (step 4 below)
    • In Relay - start assignment and send all initial messages
    • When responses come in - mark survey questions on right side. For e.g. if the voter replies "yes" to the first message, mark "yes" in the survey on the right side. If it's the wrong number, mark "wrong number", etc.
    • Respond using pre-written messages here . Use the shortlinks in the google doc to help guide you to the answer you need to use.

    4 Send your first text!

    Great, you are ready!

Use the "Start Texting" button on the bottom right of the screen, and a friendly volunteer will assign you contacts in Relay to begin texting.

Try introducing yourself - "Hi - I am a first-time volunteer and think I am ready. Can I start with 100 contacts to make sure I have the swing of things?"

The volunteer might ask you a couple of questions then let you know the contacts are ready in your Relay account.

You will also need this document to guide you on how to respond to U.S. voters when they respond to your text: Texting Scripts for Relay

**Note, if no one responds in the "Start Texting" chat, you might be contacting us outside of U.S. hours. Please schedule a shift below and we'll get you all the information you need to get started.

    5 After hours?

If you are not able to get started immediately via the "Start Texting" button, then you can sign-up for a volunteer shift using a scheduler. We will make sure to remind you and send instructions to you ahead of your shift. Sign-up here

    6 Optional bonus step

Slack is a program that allows you to talk to hundreds of other volunteers doing this together. In Slack we can connect with each other, swap tips, and ask questions. It just makes the process so much more fun - don’t miss out :) Here’s the link to join the Slack channel - Come join the chat!

That’s it! Be sure to check your email and phone as we’ll be in touch! THANKS and have fun!!!
