Rights for whales 🐋

To Pacific Island governments and world leaders :

We urge you to support the groundbreaking effort to recognise whales as legal persons — sentient beings with the right to life, culture, and protection from harm. Granting whales legal personhood would empower conservation, honour Indigenous stewardship, and help safeguard the health of our oceans. This is a turning point for nature and humanity — we call on you to help make history for the whales.

Rights for whales 🐋
This moment could be remembered for generations.

Indigenous leaders from across the Pacific Islands are close to making history –securing a groundbreaking law that would recognise whales as legal persons. If passed, it would allow whales to be represented in court, protect their migratory routes, and shield them from threats like ship strikes, noise pollution, and industrial fishing.

But to cross the finish line, they need our help.

In just four weeks, these leaders will bring the bold proposal to the global UN ocean summit – urging governments to back their vision for ocean protection. If we rally behind them now, we can tip the balance — and spark a wave of global support.

Add your name now – and Avaaz will amplify Indigenous voices to make world leaders listen.
