Rights for whales 🐋
To Pacific Island governments and world leaders:
We urge you to support the groundbreaking effort to recognise whales as legal persons — sentient beings with the right to life, culture, and protection from harm. Granting whales legal personhood would empower conservation, honour Indigenous stewardship, and help safeguard the health of our oceans. This is a turning point for nature and humanity — we call on you to help make history for the whales.

Yet shipping and whaling companies kill thousands every year, with no consequences at all – because humans have never cared enough to protect whales.
That’s all about to change.
A group of activists headed by Indigenous leaders is working with Pacific Island governments to pass a law that will grant whales legal personhood for the first time in history.
Backing that up is a huge global investment fund aimed at saving our oceans and a regional treaty that requires countries to pass the personhood law if they want to benefit from the fund.
They’ll launch this game-changing campaign on June 8th at the UN Oceans Conference in France. To succeed, they need to get more countries to join their groundbreaking initiative. That’s where we come in! Sign now so Indigenous leaders can walk into meetings in France with proof that citizens everywhere want a world where whales are safe!
