Rights for whales 🐋
To Pacific Island governments and world leaders:
We urge you to support the groundbreaking effort to recognise whales as legal persons — sentient beings with the right to life, culture, and protection from harm. Granting whales legal personhood would empower conservation, honour Indigenous stewardship, and help safeguard the health of our oceans. This is a turning point for nature and humanity — we call on you to help make history for the whales.

But we are nature, and nature is us.
The insidious idea that we’re not, that we’re somehow different, has broken our relationship with the planet and brought us to the brink of destroying the climate and ecosystems that sustain all life.
It’s profoundly sad.
But it’s also reversible – as a grassroots, Indigenous movement from the Pacific Islands is showing us. They're working hand-in-hand with regional governments to pass a law that will grant whales legal personhood for the first time in history.
This could be one of those moments we look back on, when everything changed.
Our allies will launch their campaign in three weeks at the UN Oceans Conference in France. They’ve asked us to back them with a massive global call. So sign now and we’ll bring Indigenous leaders from the Pacific Islands to France, help them put on a spectacular launch event, and work with them to convince more world leaders to follow their lead.
