Save Tassie's ancient forests

To Prime Minister Tony Abbott:

We call on you to withdraw the proposal to delist 74,000 hectares of the Tasmanian Wilderness Area from World Heritage status. These forests are ancient, irreplaceable and have been deemed to have outstanding universal value. Delisting this forest would set a dangerous precedent for World Heritage listed areas all over the world.

Save Tassie's ancient forests

The Abbott government is lobbying furiously to remove World Heritage status from Tasmania's ancient forests. It could happen in the next few days, but we can stop loggers getting at our magical 90 metre trees.

The World Heritage Committee meeting is happening now and it can vote to save the irreplaceable forest, some of which is 3,000 years old. But it's more likely to protect the World Heritage site if our government is under huge pressure back home!

Abbott's assault on our environment is hitting his approval ratings, and the Senate just rejected his bid to scrap a clean energy fund. Let's ensure he loses another battle -- when 50,000 people sign the petition for Tasmania's forests, we’ll take out an ad in a major paper showing Abbott taking an axe to a magnificent Tassie tree, and inform all Heritage Committee delegates.
