Say no to oil in a marine reserve

To PM Trudeau, Canadian Fisheries Minister Dominic LeBlanc & Newfoundland Natural Resources Minister Siobhan Coady:

We object in the strongest terms to allowing oil and gas exploration in the proposed Laurentian Channel marine protected area. Whales and other wildlife that use this area need strict protections, and energy exploration could prove disastrous!

Say no to oil in a marine reserve

7 endangered whales were just found dead in the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, and scientists say industry is a major cause. Thankfully, the government has proposed a massive marine reserve along a critical migration route for the whales, but -- and this is crazy -- they could open it up to big oil.

There are only 500 of these majestic giants left on the planet, but the oil and gas industry has been lobbying hard to open the marine reserve to drilling. Our voices now could help save this species.

The Department of Fisheries say they want to make a decision in “meaningful consultation with Canadians.” There are over a million Avaazers in Canada — let’s show our government what we think!
