Don’t rubber stamp the tar sands

National Energy Board Chair Peter Watson:

The Energy East pipeline could move over 1 million barrels of tar sands from Alberta to the Atlantic Ocean each day - exporting bitumen and dangerous carbon emissions to the world.

Without considering climate change and listening to people’s voices, any review of Energy East will be incomplete and illegitimate.

Don’t rubber stamp the tar sands
A group of energy sector insiders seems likely to rubber stamp the eastern oil sands pipeline, which will cross rivers and cut through communities, taking oily bitumen from Alberta to Québec and New Brunswick. The National Energy Board –- which is reviewing the pipeline application -- say that they're not focusing on the environment, and climate change isn't their concern.

The NEB is about to start a  public consultation - but they only want to hear from a hand picked few, on topics that they choose. But right now citizens’ groups are coming together to make the biggest push yet for a fair and inclusive process that will look at all the issues. If we all add our voices, they will have to listen, or risk a complete loss of public trust.

The pipeline would choke the climate, transporting over 1 million barrels of tar sands crude each day, risking spills that contaminate drinking water and threaten communities along its route. This crucial decision can’t be made through a flawed and narrow process. Click now and tell these decision makers to put their rubber stamp back in their pockets. When 100,000 sign on, we’ll bring our voices right to their door steps!
