Guilt-free clothing

To the CEOs of H&M, GAP, and other fashion brands:

As global citizens and consumers, we urge you to immediately sign an enforceable Bangladesh fire and building safety agreement that will commit you to pay for routine, independent inspections and safety upgrades for your supplier factories, or risk fatal damage to your brand image. Your companies profit from cheap labor in Bangladesh, and can do much more to reduce the dangers of the workplaces where your products are made. Your action can encourage other multinationals to take full responsibility for conditions on the factory floor.

Guilt-free clothing
We've all seen the horrific images of hundreds of innocent women burned to death or crushed in factories while making our clothes. But in the next few days there's something we can do about it.

A few big fashion brands source from hundreds of factories in Bangladesh. A very strong code of conduct on building and fire safety has been signed by two of them, including Calvin Klein. Others, led by Wal-Mart, have been trying to get out of signing this code by creating a weak alternative that was pure PR. They were right in the middle of doing that when the latest disaster struck. Now, the pressure is on to get them to sign the strong version that can save lives.

Negotiations end in days. H&M and GAP are most likely to flip to support a strong agreement, and the best way to press them is to go after their CEOs. If one million of us appeal directly to them in a petition, facebook pages, tweets, and ads, their friends and families will all hear about it. They'll know that their own and their companies' reputations are on the line. People are being forced to make *our* clothing under horrifically unsafe conditions -- sign on to make them safe, and forward this email widely.
