Stand with Vanuatu

To German Chancellor Angela Merkel:

As concerned global citizens, we urge you to use this year’s G7 summit to prioritise climate support. This means clearly honouring previous commitments to help countries manage climate change, following through on promises to end fossil fuel subsidies, and being prepared to come forward with more finance to help communities respond to the growing climate crisis. Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu is a reminder that climate change is already having devastating impacts on the world’s most vulnerable countries, with your help we can ensure they not only survive, but thrive.

Stand with Vanuatu
Mega-Cyclone Pam just devastated the tiny Pacific Island nation of Vanuatu, tearing apart almost every building in the country, killing dozens, and displacing thousands.

Vanuatu's President has said the nation has to start over. But in a country whose average income is just $3,000, rebuilding without aid from abroad will be impossible.

Rich nations could ease the burden on frontline countries like Vanuatu, but so far have failed to put their money where their mouths are by helping them respond to rising seas and eliminating the billions in polluter handouts that drive these deadly super storms.

Right now, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is setting the agenda for the next meeting of rich countries. Decades ago she was pivotal in negotiating the first UN climate treaty -- if we build a global outcry, we could convince her to make climate support for the world’s vulnerable a top priority.

Let's stand with Vanuatu and call on Merkel to bankroll climate emergency response, not polluters, at the G7 summit. Sign the petition now!
