Denmark: Stop this Bill of Shame

To Ms Inger Støjberg, Minister for Immigration, Integration and Housing, Denmark :

We are alarmed by the amendments that have been proposed to the Alien Act that the Danish Parliament plans to vote on soon. Increasing wait times for family reunification from one to 3 years and confiscating cash and possessions from people fleeing war is inhuman and contravenes the European Convention on Human Rights. We urge you not to vote on this Bill and uphold the standards of human rights that Denmark is signed up to.

Denmark: Stop this Bill of Shame
In days, the Danish government will push a new Bill that will separate refugee families for years and allow the confiscation of their cash and valuables to pay for their stay -- a policy that has echoes of Nazi Germany for many in Europe.

The proposed legislation is triggering international condemnation, with experts saying its real aim is to cruelly deter vulnerable and desperate people from going to Denmark.

Some say the law is a done deal, and other countries like Switzerland are following suit -- but if we act now we still have a chance to stop this Bill of Shame and make sure copycat laws don’t pop up around Europe.

Danes have always taken pride in “Brand Denmark”, with their tiny country enjoying a reputation for fairness and efficiency in business. If 500,000 of us join now, we can run a hard-hitting ad campaign and show the Danish government how much damage this new Bill will do to the country’s image of tolerance and hospitality, and persuade them to do a re-think. We have days to act. Sign now and share with everyone! We have 10 days to act. Sign now!
