Free Mauritania's anti-slavery leader
To the European Union:
As citizens of the world, we believe that slavery must be entirely abolished in all its forms. The EU has condemned slavery in Mauritania and the case against anti-slavery leader, Biram Dah Abeid, whose work is crucial to end this horrific practice in Mauritania. We now call on you to review and suspend European Development Fund payments unless Biram and his colleagues are immediately released, repression of abolitionists stops, the right to legal recognition is given to all anti-slavery organisations, and the government shows real progress to end this human cruelty.

Sadly, where I’m from in Mauritania, it is. Tens of thousands of people still live in slavery. But I was lucky. My brother escaped his masters and found a local organization that helped slaves. They set me free.
Biram Dah Abeid, the man who rescued me, has dedicated his life to freeing thousands like me. But now he is chains, thrown into jail by our government for daring to speak out against slavery.
I’m told that strong international pressure is our only hope to persuade our government to set Biram free, so he can continue helping my people break their chains. Join me now to tell world leaders to save my saviour and bring hope to Mauritania’s enslaved people.
