Transfer hope to Nepal

To Governors of the World Bank and Asian Development Bank:

As rescuers race to help earthquake survivors on the ground, we call on you to race to ensure that Nepal’s government gets debt cancellation so that it can maximise the money it spends for recovery and rehabilitation in the coming years. Nepal will need a mixture of quick grants now and longer-term resources to lift its people from this devastating tragedy.

Transfer hope to Nepal
As Nepali families struggle to find food, water and shelter in the days after the devastating earthquake, the world has opened its heart to them. But more than $200 million in desperately needed dollars could disappear in the next year unless we get money transfer companies to stop charging outrageous fees and allow funds to enter Nepal for free.

One in ten Nepalis live abroad and the money they send back makes up over a quarter of Nepal's income. Now that will skyrocket as they rush to send loved ones every cent they can.

Hikmet Ersek, Western Union’s CEO, has already agreed to waive fees for money entering Nepal, but so far for only two more weeks. If we raise a giant call appeal to Ersek and his rival company bosses we can get them to extend this to a year.

Let's move fast, while the world is with Nepal. Add your voice, then send a message on social media channels the companies use all the time. If they respond with further generosity by this time next week, we'll congratulate them -- if not the Avaaz team will take out ads near where they live and work, calling on them to do more:
