Henoko: Dialogue, not destruction

To Caroline Kennedy, US-Ambassador to Japan:

As a Japanese citizen concerned about our natural environment and democratic values I call on you to ensure a moratorium on construction of the US air base in Henoko and a high-level face to face dialogue between the US government, Japanese government and Okinawa prefecture to determine how to proceed. The existing air base has already damaged the USA’s reputation in Japan, and destroying Henoko’s ocean treasure for future generations would compound that.

Henoko: Dialogue, not destruction

The Japanese government is pushing forward with the relocation of Futenma Airfield to Henoko, ignoring Okinawa governor’s call to stop the works. 80% of Okinawans oppose this, and if we make sure the US-ambassador hears the full strength of public opposition, we can get her to ensure dialogue, not destruction.

The beautiful and fragile corals in Henoko sea have already been damaged by the massive concrete blocks dumped there to start construction. If it continues, irreversible damage will be done to this home of dugongs and other precious creatures.

What Okinawa needs is a moratorium for the works in Henoko, and a face-to-face dialogue with the Japanese and US government. US-Ambassador Caroline Kennedy has President Obama’s ear, so if we put her on the spot with a massive call, delivered right to her door, we can make these talks happen.
