EU: Protect our health

Unless we all speak up in the next few hours, the European Commission could approve glyphosate for 15 years.

After top scientists said it probably causes cancer, 1.4 million of us and key MEPs raised the alarm. Now, officials in Germany, France, Italy, Sweden and the Netherlands are objecting to the vote , and the Commission just said to the media, "a vote would not go ahead if support for relicensing continued to erode."

If enough of us send the EU Health Commissioner social media messages now, we will remind him that people across the continent are watching and demanding he suspend the chemical or postpone the vote until full independent studies prove it does no harm. Use the box on the right to send an urgent message .

Update: 8 March 2016
We’re winning! Following the delivery of our massive petition to ban Monsanto’s weedkiller to capitals all over Europe, and a surge of messages from thousands of Avaazers — support for the re-approval of glyphosate collapsed across the EU at the final hour, and the European Commission was just forced to postpone the vote. Let’s keep up the pressure to get the chemical suspended and ensure we are not used as lab rats!
Send a message to EU Health Commissioner, Vytenis Andriukaitis:

Here’s some talking points you can use for your comments on Facebook:

  • I urge you to invoke the precautionary principle, and suspend glyphosate or postpone the relicensing vote until there is a full independent review that proves it is safe.
  • Top UN scientists say glyphosate probably causes cancer. The EFSA review is inadequate as much of the science is secret and has come from the chemical companies themselves.
  • 1.4 million people are calling on you to suspend the chemical and protect their health.
