For the women of Syria

To the Arab League, European Union, United States, and Friends of Syria:

As global citizens, we call on you to take immediate action to stop the deadly terror in Syria. Enough is enough. We ask you to immediately demand a ceasefire to stop the bloodshed so that parties can come to the negotiating table to agree on a way forward. Until a ceasefire is reached, we call on you to work together and with the international community to enforce a no fly zone to stop the bombardment of Syria’s civilians and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those most in need.

For the women of Syria
Women in Syria are being forced to stand in front of tanks and act as human shields before they’re stripped and raped by soldiers. As the conflict drags on, a rape crisis has taken grip of the country, tearing apart countless women’s lives and forcing hundreds of thousands to flee. But we’re at a turning point -- and we have to make sure it’s toward peace and safety for the women of Syria.

Both the Syrian regime and the opposition depend on international powers for survival. It’s time to get these world leaders to act. Let’s demand an immediate ceasefire to stop the horror, and until this demand is met, a no-fly zone over Syria to create safe havens for women and children’s protection. Unless our leaders feel the heat from the public, thousands more women could suffer unthinkable atrocities in the months ahead.

Foreign powers have dithered for too long, coldly calculating their interests and forgetting about the lives at stake. It’s time to put people first. Syria’s worst-off civilians have become voiceless -- let’s carry their voices and demand action from our leaders.
