To Metropolitan Police, Home Office and local authorities:

We call on the Police Service to support British citizens' right to democratic expression, and end the privatisation of protest by making resources available to manage public safety and road closures at the climate change march and all future demonstrations.

In the build-up to the General Election, campaigning organisations are being gagged and authorities are now making it difficult for citizens to peacefully take to the streets and protest. We need to call on the Minister of State for Policing to intervene and end this privatisation of protests.

Use the form on the right to send a message to Mike Penning, Minister of State for Policing, Criminal Justice and Victims. Here are some tips on what to write, but remember the more personal the better:
  • It is our democratic right to peacefully protest and it is the authorities role to support this.
  • In the build-up to a General Election, the authorities and the State should not be seen stifling democratic expression.
  • I call on you to intervene in this matter to ensure that the Metropolitan Police Service reverse their policy and support upcoming demonstrations.
